Roles and Responsibilities

Essex Golf Limited will be managed through these key areas

Finance

The Finance Director provides strategic and financial guidance to ensure EGL commitments are met within agreed budgets. They oversee budgeting, reporting, and control systems to safeguard EGL funds and ensure transparency. The role monitors supplier contracts to achieve best value, leads the Finance Committee, and advises the Board on affiliation fees and financial compliance.

Championships & Competitions

The Championships & Competitions Director oversees all County events to ensure they are run to the highest standards and in line with the Rules of Golf. The role chairs the Championships & Competitions Committee, supports referees and course rating teams, and works with clubs to maintain fairness and consistency across all Essex Golf competitions.

Team Management

The Team Managers oversee the selection, preparation, and welfare of County squads. They monitor player performance, attend coaching sessions, and ensure safeguarding standards are maintained. The role manages logistics such as accommodation, travel, kit and team provisions within agreed budgets, and provides leadership and support at County events.

Golf Development

The Golf Development Director leads initiatives to grow the game of golf within Essex. Their main focus groups are juniors, the future of our sport, and under-represented groups such as women and disabled people. By forging partnerships and relationships with a wide range of organisations and external bodies they aim to promote golf to sections of the community that may have never considered our sport before; thus increasing participation at both club and county level.

Marketing & Communications

The Marketing & Communications Director promotes a professional image of Essex Golf through all media and public channels. They manage the County website and social media, share news and results, and support sponsorship and grant opportunities. The role works with the Board and office team to keep members informed and engaged across all communications.

Human Resources & Governance

The HR & Compliance Director oversees employment and governance matters, ensuring fair and consistent management of staff and Directors. They review contracts, salaries and training needs, and act as the company’s personnel lead. The role chairs the HR & Compliance Committee and advises the Board on policy and best practice.

Player Development

The Player Development Director leads initiatives to support the progression of golfers at all levels within Essex. Working closely with the Golf Development and Team Management Directors, they oversee player pathways, coaching opportunities and talent identification. The role ensures that promising players are nurtured and supported to reach their full potential within County and national structures.
