Essex Golf

About us

Organisational chart

The Essex Golf Union (EGU) and the Essex Ladies County Golf Association (ELCGA) are excited to announce their unification, creating a single, inclusive organization to support and promote golf across Essex. By coming together, we’re combining our expertise and passion for the game to provide even better opportunities for all golfers — whatever your age, ability, or background.

We’ll continue to run the events and competitions you know and love, from county championships, knockout tournaments and individual competitions to junior development programs and inter-club team events. With our expanded resources, we’re also committed to nurturing talent, helping Essex golfers reach their full potential on regional, national, and even international stages.

When it comes to governance, we’re keeping things fair and balanced. The new Board of Directors will have 10 members — eight elected by affiliated clubs and two appointed by the Board. One of these directors will take on the role of Chair/CEO. To ensure everyone’s voice is heard, no more than two directors will be from the same club, and we’ll maintain a minimum of 20% male and 20% female directors. This commitment to representation will extend to our committees as well.

The role of President will alternate between male and female representatives as far as possible, promoting inclusivity and balanced leadership. While the President, President Elect, and County Secretary will attend Board meetings to provide insight and guidance, they won’t have voting rights.

The day-to-day running of Essex Golf will be managed through the county office in Witham which will remain the hub of operations, staffed by our County Secretary and a small, dedicated team of employees.

The organization will be handled through these key areas:

  • Finance
  • Championships & Competitions
  • Team Management
  • Golf Development
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Governance
  • Human Resources & Compliance

Each of these will be led by one of the directors with support from the county office and volunteers.

With around 26,000 male members and 3,000 female members from clubs across the county, this unification is a significant step toward a stronger, more connected golfing community. Whether you’re a seasoned player, a competitive golfer, or just enjoy a friendly round, we’re here to support you and celebrate everything Essex golf has to offer.

Here’s to a new chapter — Essex Golf
